About VKG

Viru Keemia Grupp (VKG) is an Estonian industrial group focused on oil shale–based fuels, chemical feedstocks, electricity, and district heat. Headquartered in Kohtla‑Järve, VKG operates a vertically integrated value chain that includes oil shale mining, thermal processing (retorting), power and heat generation, utilities, and logistics. Its output includes shale oil for fuel blending, as well as gas and liquid fractions used as petrochemical intermediates, with energy supplied to industrial and municipal customers in Ida‑Viru County.

VKG’s operations are a central part of Estonia’s oil shale sector, with multiple processing units and supporting infrastructure located near the country’s main deposits. The group conducts environmental and safety programs in line with national and EU regulations and invests in modernization to improve energy efficiency and reduce emissions.
