Ucaneo Biotech GmbH is a Berlin-based German company developing electrochemical direct air capture (DAC) technology to remove CO₂ from ambient air. The process, modeled on human lung function, produces CO₂ at greater than 99.9% purity and is fully electrified for integration with renewable power sources.
The company operates an industrial pilot plant and commissioned its first-of-a-kind commercial facility in Berlin-Marzahn in 2026, with a nameplate capacity of 150 tCO₂ per year. This plant is Germany's largest DAC installation upon startup and includes provisions for geological storage of captured CO₂. Ucaneo has partnered with Siemens to deploy standardized automation and digitalization solutions for scaling to larger plants and licensed operators worldwide.
The firm targets annual capture of 0.5 gigatonnes of CO₂ by 2035, supplying industrial CO₂ for applications such as sustainable aviation fuels and methanol production.
