SunPine is a Swedish biorefinery based in Piteå that upgrades crude tall oil—a by-product of the kraft pulp industry—into bio-based chemical intermediates. Positioned within the Nordic forest value chain, the company operates industrial-scale processing that supplies fuel and specialty chemical markets.
Key products include raw tall diesel, used as a feedstock for renewable diesel; rosin, applied in adhesives, inks, and other resin derivatives; and tall oil pitch, used as an energy product in industrial processes. By valorizing residual streams from wood pulping, SunPine provides materials to downstream refiners and chemical producers and contributes to more efficient use of forest resources.
The facility will produce rosin, raw tall diesel, and tall oil pitch by late 2015. Neste Jacobs will manage the project from Gothenburg and Turku offices.
