Shanghai Tunnel Engineering Co (Singapore) Pte Ltd (STECS) is a Singapore-based civil engineering and construction company specializing in tunneling, underground infrastructure development, and large-scale civil works. Incorporated in 1996, it operates as a subsidiary of Shanghai Tunnel Engineering Co., Ltd. STECS has evolved from a tunnel subcontractor on the North East Line MRT project to a leading main contractor in Singapore's rail transit and underground construction sector. It has delivered major contracts for the Land Transport Authority (LTA) across multiple MRT lines including Downtown Line, Thomson-East Coast Line, and Cross Island Line, as well as projects for the Public Utilities Board (PUB), Marina Bay Sands, and Changi Airport Group. The company has completed over 75 km of tunnels and numerous underground stations, utilizing advanced tunnel boring machine (TBM) technologies and expertise in soft soil and large-diameter tunneling.
Primarily active in Singapore, STECS serves as a regional hub for Southeast Asian infrastructure projects with additional presence in countries such as India, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Macau, and Indonesia. It holds ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 certifications. In February 2026, STECS entered into a 50-50 unincorporated joint venture with Sanli M&E Engineering Pte. Ltd. to undertake civil, structural, and architectural works as a subcontractor on the PUB Changi NEWater Factory 3 project.
