Southern Energy Renewables Inc. is a U.S.-based developer of clean fuels, chemicals, and products, specializing in large-scale biomass-to-fuels projects. The company converts renewable biomass feedstocks, such as wood waste, crop residues, forest residues, municipal solid waste, and biosolids, into low-carbon fuels including green methanol, carbon-negative sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), renewable natural gas, ammonia, and hydrogen.
Utilizing an advanced gasification platform integrated with carbon capture and sequestration, Southern aims to produce fuels with negative lifecycle emissions. Its flagship project is a $1.4 billion facility in St. Charles Parish, Louisiana, set to produce approximately 220 kilotons of methanol and 28 million gallons of SAF annually from regional wood-waste biomass. Construction is planned to start in late 2027, with commercial operations expected in late 2029.
The company is advancing additional developments in Texas and has formed partnerships, including a memorandum of understanding with Axens for SAF technology licensing and collaboration on its Louisiana project.
