Shymkent Refinery LLP

About Shymkent Refinery

Shymkent Refinery LLP (also known as PetroKazakhstan Oil Products, PKOP) is a major oil refining complex located in Shymkent, southern Kazakhstan. It is one of the country’s three core refineries and is jointly owned by affiliates of KazMunayGas and China National Petroleum Corporation. The facility has a nameplate capacity of about 6 million tonnes per year (roughly 120,000 barrels per day) and primarily supplies fuels to Kazakhstan’s southern regions.

The refinery underwent a multi‑year modernization completed in the late 2010s, adding conversion and hydrotreating units that enable the production of Euro‑4/Euro‑5 standard motor fuels and a higher depth of processing. Its product slate includes gasoline, diesel, aviation fuel, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), and other refined products, supported by sulfur recovery and environmental control systems. Feedstocks are sourced from domestic fields and regional supply routes, with distribution by pipeline and rail to the domestic market and nearby Central Asian destinations.
