Severnside Carbon Capture and Shipping Hub Ltd (7CO2) is a UK-based company incorporated in July 2022, focused on developing carbon capture and storage (CCS) infrastructure. Located at Avonmouth Docks in Bristol, it aims to serve as a regional hub for the South West of England, Midlands, and South Wales.
The hub enables non-pipeline transport of captured CO2 from industrial emitters via pipelines from local sites and rail from regional facilities. It will receive, process, liquefy, store, and load CO2 for shipment to permanent geological storage sites, with a planned capacity of up to 6 million tonnes per year. Operations are targeted to commence around 2031.
Recent developments include an agreement with Exolum, which established subsidiary Exolum 7CO2 to develop a CO2 storage and shipping terminal, with Técnicas Reunidas as engineering partner. The company collaborates with partners such as The Bristol Port Company, Viridor, and SSE Thermal to support decarbonisation efforts outside the UK's main CCS clusters.
