Next Generation Manufacturing Canada (NGen) is an industry-led not-for-profit organization incorporated in 2017 under the Canada Not-for-profit Corporations Act. It serves as the lead for Canada’s Global Innovation Cluster for Advanced Manufacturing, one of five such national networks supported by the federal government’s Global Innovation Clusters Initiative.
Headquartered in Hamilton, Ontario, NGen connects manufacturers, technology developers, researchers, and other stakeholders across Canada to foster innovation in advanced manufacturing. Its main activities include providing co-investment funding for collaborative industry-led projects, facilitating ecosystem connections, and promoting Canadian capabilities domestically and internationally. Key focus areas encompass artificial intelligence in manufacturing, sustainable processes, additive manufacturing, robotics, and digital transformation technologies.
NGen operates through various challenge programs and supercluster projects, typically funding up to 40-50% of eligible costs for consortia involving multiple partners, including small and medium-sized enterprises. Since its inception, it has supported hundreds of projects involving over 1,000 partners, contributing to billions in new industry revenue, thousands of jobs, and numerous new companies and intellectual property assets.
As a key enabler in Canada’s advanced manufacturing sector, NGen helps enhance productivity, sustainability, and global competitiveness by de-risking innovation and accelerating the adoption of cutting-edge technologies across industries such as automotive, aerospace, life sciences, and clean technology.
