NEPIC (North East of England Process Industry Cluster) is an industry-led, not-for-profit membership organisation representing the chemical and wider process industries in North East England. Its community spans bulk and specialty chemicals, petrochemicals, pharmaceuticals, polymers, biotechnology, energy, and associated engineering and service suppliers, alongside universities and research bodies across Teesside and the wider region.
The cluster facilitates collaboration and knowledge sharing, supports innovation and scale-up, strengthens local and export supply chains, and works with government and stakeholders on investment, infrastructure, skills, and regulatory matters. Activities include networking and benchmarking, business support for SMEs, links between industry and academia, and initiatives to improve productivity, safety, and environmental performance, including decarbonisation and industrial symbiosis. NEPIC’s role is to help its member companies and the regional chemical-process ecosystem remain competitive, attract investment, and sustain high-value manufacturing jobs.
The conversion will secure the plant's future, support 4,000 supply chain jobs, and enhance competitiveness. Government backing includes €11m from the Regional Growth Fund.
The EU's LOCIMAP project aims to enhance Europe's low carbon industrial base by integrating manufacturing complexes for higher efficiency and lower emissions, addressing energy and regulatory challenges.
