Namie Battery Storage LLC serves as the dedicated project company for the Sumitomo Namie Battery Storage Project, a new grid-scale battery energy storage system (BESS) located in Namie, Fukushima Prefecture, Japan.

The company is developing a facility with a rated output of 62 MW and storage capacity of 291 MWh. This standalone BESS will enable flexible charging and discharging to balance power supply and demand, facilitate greater integration of renewable energy sources like solar and wind by minimizing curtailment, and support grid stabilization in partnership with utilities. Commercial operations are scheduled to commence in 2029.

Established as a special purpose vehicle, Namie Battery Storage LLC is 100% owned by Sumitomo Corporation through its wholly owned subsidiary BS Holdings Co., Ltd., which holds and manages the group's battery energy storage assets. The project was selected under Japan's Long-Term Decarbonization Power Source Auction, launched in 2024, providing long-term revenue visibility.

As part of Sumitomo Corporation's broader portfolio of nine BESS projects totaling approximately 200 MW output across Japan, the company contributes to the group's expansion in energy storage. It leverages Sumitomo's expertise in BESS development, operations, and digital technologies to advance carbon neutrality and sustainable regional development in the Tohoku area.
