The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) is the autonomous governing authority for the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, headquartered in Erbil. It exercises executive, legislative, and regulatory functions across the region’s economy and public administration.
In the energy and chemical value chain, the KRG—principally through its Ministry of Natural Resources—oversees upstream oil and gas exploration and production within its jurisdiction, awards and administers licenses and production-sharing contracts, regulates midstream infrastructure and export routes, and supervises refining and petrochemical development. It engages with international operators and service providers on project execution and investment, and coordinates with Iraq’s federal institutions on hydrocarbons policy and revenue matters.
