Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) is a public research university and national research center based in Karlsruhe, Germany. A member of the Helmholtz Association, it was established in 2009 through the merger of the University of Karlsruhe and Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe. KIT combines academic education with large-scale, mission-oriented research across engineering, natural sciences, and related fields.
Relevant to the chemical industry, KIT hosts institutes in chemistry, chemical and process engineering, and materials science. Its research covers catalysis and reaction engineering, polymers and composites, battery and hydrogen technologies, separation processes, environmental and resource recovery technologies, and safety. KIT operates pilot-scale and analytical infrastructures that support scale-up, characterization, and collaboration with industrial and public partners. The institute’s work underpins advances in sustainable production, circularity, and energy-transition materials and processes.
