Its role Investor / Financier
Invest International B.V. is a Dutch development finance company established in July 2021 as a joint venture between the Dutch Ministry of Finance, which holds a 51% stake, and FMO, the Netherlands' entrepreneurial development bank, with 49% ownership. Headquartered in The Hague, the company specializes in providing tailored financial solutions to bridge gaps in commercial financing for Dutch and Dutch-linked businesses pursuing international expansion.
Its main activities include offering loans, guarantees, equity investments, and development capital for feasibility studies and project de-risking. Invest International also supports foreign governments with infrastructure development by combining concessional funding with commercial finance, focusing on sectors where Dutch expertise excels: energy transition, water and infrastructure, agri-food, healthcare, and sustainable manufacturing. Operations target emerging markets, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa, South and Southeast Asia, and other regions aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
By managing programs such as the Dutch Good Growth Fund and Development Related Infrastructure Investment Vehicle (DRIVE) on behalf of the Dutch government, Invest International advances both Dutch export interests and global sustainable development. It has committed nearly €2 billion in financing over its first five years, supporting approximately 400 companies, more than half of which are SMEs, while maintaining profitability. The firm positions itself as a key player in blended finance, mobilizing private capital for high-impact projects that commercial markets might otherwise overlook.
