GAIL (India) Limited, formerly Gas Authority of India Limited, is India’s largest natural gas transmission and marketing company and a Government of India Maharatna public sector enterprise. It develops and operates a nationwide network of cross‑country natural gas pipelines, gas processing facilities, and LNG sourcing/trading operations that supply fuel and feedstock to fertilizer, power, refining, metals, and chemical industries.
In petrochemicals, GAIL operates an integrated complex at Pata (Uttar Pradesh) producing polyethylene (HDPE/LLDPE), along with liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and other liquid hydrocarbons derived from natural gas processing. It markets polymers domestically and supplies LPG and related hydrocarbons from multiple gas processing units.
Through subsidiaries and joint ventures, GAIL also participates in city gas distribution and LNG regasification. By linking domestic and imported gas supplies with industrial users and chemical producers, it occupies a central position in India’s gas and petrochemical value chains.
