Fortescue Metals Group Ltd (Fortescue) is an Australian resources company and one of the world’s largest iron ore producers. Headquartered in Perth, it operates major mining and rail/port infrastructure in Western Australia’s Pilbara region and is listed on the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX: FMG).

Through its Fortescue Energy division (building on Fortescue Future Industries), the company develops projects in green hydrogen and green ammonia and invests in electrolyser technology and manufacturing. Its activities span renewable power integration, hydrogen production, ammonia synthesis and export logistics, with applications across heavy industry, fertilizers and maritime fuels. Fortescue is also assessing “green iron” pathways that use hydrogen to reduce iron ore. The company has stated targets to eliminate its operational (Scope 1 and 2) emissions by 2030, aligning its mining operations and emerging energy projects with broader industrial decarbonization trends.
