Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) is the global governing body for world motor sport and a federation of national motoring organizations. Founded in 1904, it sets and enforces sporting and technical regulations for series such as Formula One, the World Rally Championship, the World Endurance Championship, and Formula E. The FIA also represents the interests of motorists through a network of member clubs spanning over 140 countries. Its headquarters are in Paris, with key offices in Geneva.
Beyond competition, the FIA leads initiatives in road safety, sustainability, and mobility policy. It develops safety standards and homologation protocols, advances research into protective technologies, and runs programs such as the FIA Environmental Accreditation to encourage lower environmental impact in motorsport and mobility. The organization’s technical framework covers vehicle specifications, fuels and powertrains, and operational procedures, aiming to improve safety, fairness, and efficiency across the sport while supporting broader goals in sustainable mobility.
