Etihad Rail (Arabic: الاتحاد للقطارات), also known as Etihad Rail PJSC, is the developer and operator of the United Arab Emirates' national railway network. Established in June 2009 under Federal Law No. 2, it manages the construction and operation of freight and passenger rail services connecting all seven emirates.
The network spans approximately 900 km from Ghuwaifat on the Saudi border to Fujairah on the east coast, linking key industrial centers, ports, trade hubs, and population areas. It forms a vital part of the planned Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) railway system. Freight operations are fully active, including a 264 km Stage One line transporting granulated sulfur—a key chemical product—from Shah and Habshan gas fields to Ruwais port since 2016. Commercial freight services expanded nationwide in 2023, supporting logistics for industries like chemicals with a targeted cargo capacity of 60 million tonnes by 2030. Passenger services are set to launch in 2026.
Etihad Rail enhances UAE logistics efficiency, reduces road congestion, and promotes sustainable transport, including recent collaborations for rail links to East Coast ports used by chemical exporters.
