The carbon capture facility at Stanlow refinery will be operational by 2028, capturing 1 million tons of CO2 annually, with CO2 sequestered in Liverpool Bay's depleted gas fields.

A £45M investment will replace three furnaces with a hydrogen-capable one, cutting CO2 by 16,600 tonnes annually. Part of HyNet North West, it aims to make Stanlow the UK's first low carbon refinery.
