The project, located in Nagaa Hammadi within Qena Governorate in Upper Egypt, comprises a total of approximately 1 GW of solar PV capacity and 200 MWh of BESS, to be built in two equal phases of 500 MW solar and 100 MWh storage each. The facility will supply renewable electricity under a 25-year power purchase agreement to the Aluminium Company of Egypt (EgyptAlum), a major industrial offtaker, helping decarbonize aluminum production and support compliance with the EU Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism.

Ownership structure features Scatec ASA of Norway as the lead developer and majority equity holder (around 56% following recent transactions), with a 20% stake acquired by the National Bank of Egypt. Additional debt financing comes from the European Investment Bank (EIB), European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and African Development Bank (AfDB). Scatec provides EPC, asset management and O&M services.

As a dedicated project company in Egypt’s renewable energy sector, Dandara Solar Power S.A.E. supports national targets for increasing the share of renewables in the electricity mix and reducing emissions from energy-intensive industries, with first-phase commercial operations targeted for 2028.
