Combio Energia S.A. is a Brazilian provider of renewable thermal energy solutions to industrial clients, specializing in biomass-fired boilers and expanding into electric boilers powered by renewable sources. Founded in 2008 and headquartered in São Paulo, the company operates a full-outsourcing model in which it finances, installs, operates, maintains, and supplies fuel for steam generation systems under long-term contracts of 10 to 15 years.
Its primary activities include sourcing and managing regional biomass residues such as sugarcane bagasse, wood chips, eucalyptus, and açaí pits; delivering steam on demand; and ensuring equipment performance. The firm has implemented projects across multiple Brazilian states, serving sectors including pulp and paper, chemicals, food and beverages, aluminum, and petrochemicals. It has avoided over 3.4 million tonnes of CO₂ emissions cumulatively and reports annual revenues exceeding R$1 billion.
ComBio marked its entry into the petrochemical sector with a 15-year partnership for an electric boiler project at Braskem’s Paulínia plant in São Paulo state, its first such installation. Ownership is held by founding shareholders including CEO Paulo Skaf Filho, with approximately 31% stakes by SPX Capital and Lightrock, plus co-investments from European development institutions. As Brazil’s largest supplier of renewable industrial thermal energy, it supports national decarbonization goals through cost-competitive, low-emission alternatives to fossil fuels.
