Cement Innovation for Climate

CI4C GmbH & Co. KG, operating as Cement Innovation for Climate (CI4C), is a German research company founded in 2019 by Buzzi SpA/Dyckerhoff, Heidelberg Materials, SCHWENK Zement, and Vicat.

Headquartered at the Mergelstetten cement plant, it develops CO₂ capture technologies for cement production via the catch4climate project. The initiative operates a dedicated rotary kiln line with 450 metric tons per day clinker capacity, applying the Pure Oxyfuel process designed by thyssenkrupp Polysius.

Funded privately with over €120 million and without public support, the facility began producing clinker in May 2026 and was officially inaugurated in July 2026.
