BG Group

About BG Group

BG Group plc (now BG Group Limited) was a British multinational oil and gas company headquartered in Reading, England. Formed in 1997 through the demerger of British Gas plc's international division, it focused on the exploration, production, and liquefaction of natural gas and oil, with operations in over 25 countries across six continents.

Key assets included major gas fields in Brazil (e.g., Tupi), Australia (Queensland Curtis LNG), Egypt, Trinidad & Tobago, and the UK. The company produced around 680,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day and was a leading player in liquefied natural gas (LNG) marketing. Products encompassed crude oil, natural gas, and petrochemicals.

In 2016, Royal Dutch Shell acquired BG Group for approximately US$70 billion, integrating its assets—particularly LNG and upstream gas operations—into Shell's portfolio. The entity remains active as a private limited company registered at Shell Centre, London, with SIC codes for crude petroleum and natural gas extraction.
