About Amprion

Amprion GmbH is one of Germany’s four transmission system operators (TSOs). Headquartered in Dortmund, the company plans, builds, and operates the extra‑high‑voltage grid across large parts of western and southern Germany, including key industrial regions such as the Rhine‑Ruhr. Its network is linked to neighboring countries, providing cross‑border interconnections that support European power market integration and system stability.

Amprion’s core tasks include secure electricity transmission, grid balancing, and the integration of growing volumes of renewable energy. The company is executing major grid expansion and modernization projects, including new high‑voltage direct current (HVDC) corridors and upgrades of existing lines and substations, to enable decarbonization and the electrification of industry. Amprion is majority owned by institutional investors; RWE holds a 25.1% minority stake.
