Linde to Build Air Separation Unit in Eastern Germany

At a glance
  • Linde is investing EUR 85 million in the new air separation unit.
  • The plant will supply oxygen and nitrogen to ArcelorMittal's steelworks.
  • The new unit will replace an older facility and is planned to be operational by 2017.
  • The plant will also provide liquid gases to the regional market.

Investment and Location

The Linde Group is set to build a new air separation unit in Eisenhüttenstadt, eastern Germany, near Frankfurt an der Oder. The project involves an investment of around EUR 85 million.

Supply and Efficiency

The new plant will supply oxygen and nitrogen to the ArcelorMittal Eisenhüttenstadt steelworks. It will also provide liquid gases to the regional market. By combining gaseous and liquid production streams, the plant will significantly increase the energy efficiency of oxygen generation at the steelworks.

Project Details

The new unit will replace an older, less efficient facility. Linde’s Engineering Division will deliver the turnkey plant, and Linde Gas company LiGaPro will operate it once it goes on stream, currently planned for 2017.

Energy and Environmental Impact

Energy efficiency was a key factor in the design phase, especially given rising raw material costs in the region. An improved energy balance will also help lower carbon dioxide emissions.
