The concentration of petrochemical plants around the port of Coatzacoalcos and neighbouring Nanchital in southern Veracruz. Pemex's Pajaritos, Cangrejera and Morelos complexes and Braskem Idesa's Etileno XXI form its core, and around them other companies make acetyl intermediates, ethoxylates and surfactants, ethylene glycols and ethanolamines, and sodium cyanide, largely from the ethylene and ethylene oxide of the Pemex complexes.
