Background
Building on pumping tests carried out at Willy‑Brandt‑Ring in April 2025, GRILLO is extending investigations into the groundwater system with additional short‑term and long‑term pumping tests to substantiate earlier findings.
Testing programme
Initial differentiated short‑term pumping tests will provide further data on permeability and groundwater flow behaviour. Those results will form the basis for a prolonged long‑term pumping test in which water is continuously pumped and comprehensively analysed over an extended period.
Ochre formation and water quality
A key objective is assessing ochre formation dynamics — the extent and rate at which iron compounds precipitate in wells — to guide system design and define necessary well regeneration measures. In parallel, repeated water samples will be analysed to assess how groundwater quality could evolve under long‑term operation.
Compliance and next steps
All work is carried out with independent expert input and in compliance with environmental and safety standards.
