Investment and Expansion

The Munich-based WACKER Group is investing €30 million to build a new liquid resins unit at its Nünchritz site. This unit will supply key upstream products for formulating silicone-based building-protection agents and binders for exterior paints and industrial coatings. The new unit is scheduled to start operations by the end of 2022, enhancing the cost-effectiveness of WACKER’s integrated production system.

Production Capabilities

Currently, WACKER produces these substances only at its Burghausen site. The new unit in Nünchritz will process products obtained from the synthesis of methylchlorosilanes, enabling greater flexibility in responding to customer needs. This expansion will also help meet the high demand for building-protection agents and coatings, as the Burghausen plant has been running at full capacity.

Market Demand and Future Growth

The construction sector and demand for high-quality industrial coatings have driven the need for more silicone-based construction materials and binders. The new setup in Nünchritz will enhance supply security and offer opportunities for supporting current market developments and establishing new production lines if justified by demand. This investment is seen as a crucial basis for future growth in the building-protection and coating sectors.

Job Creation and Site Integration

The new liquid resins unit is located on the site of a former tank farm, near a hybrid polymer facility under construction. This facility will produce silane-terminated hybrid polymer binders for high-performance adhesives starting late next year. The investment will create around 50 new production-related jobs at the Nünchritz site, integrating seamlessly with the existing infrastructure and enhancing the site's status within WACKER’s integrated production system.
