Vopak secures NSW endorsement for Port Botany SAF-capable expansion
- Endorsement from NSW Investment Delivery Authority provides practical, non‑financial support to remove delivery barriers and accelerate project delivery.
- Proposed expansion adds approximately 120,000 cbm of storage capacity at Port Botany, including new tanks and pipeline connections.
- Project will remain an independent, open‑access facility with capability to store sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), intended to boost supply resilience and competition.
- The project is subject to a final investment decision (FID) and regulatory planning conditions and approvals.
Project scope
Vopak proposes to expand its Port Botany aviation fuel infrastructure by adding new storage tanks and pipeline connections to increase storage capacity by approximately 120,000 cbm. The expansion is intended to be an independent, open‑access facility and includes capability to store sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) to support decarbonisation of the aviation sector.
Government endorsement
The New South Wales Government, through the Investment Delivery Authority (IDA), has endorsed the project as a key initiative to strengthen the state’s fuel security and resilience. The endorsement provides practical, non‑financial support aimed at removing delivery barriers, improving coordination across government and accelerating project delivery.
Positioning and next steps
Vopak says the expansion will strengthen supply chain resilience, boost market competition and help protect consumers and businesses. The project remains conditional on a final investment decision (FID) and obtaining required regulatory planning approvals.
