Uniper Seeks Approval to Decommission Breitbrunn Gas Storage

Decommissioning Notification

The Breitbrunn natural gas storage facility in Bavaria, with a working gas capacity of 11.5 TWh, was initially notified for decommissioning to the Federal Network Agency (BNetzA) on April 30, 2025.

Approval Application

Uniper Energy Storage GmbH has now applied for approval from BNetzA to decommission the facility, effective March 31, 2027, in accordance with article 35h of the EnWG.

Security of Supply

The application includes the required proof that decommissioning will not adversely affect the security of supply for Germany or the European Union.
