Toray launches two nanofiltration membrane elements

Key highlights
  • Toray launched the NE8040‑XDM and NE8040‑90F nanofiltration membrane elements worldwide in July 2026.
  • Both models were developed and are manufactured by Toray Advanced Materials Korea Inc., with technical assistance from Toray’s Global Environment Research Laboratories on the NE8040‑XDM.
  • The NE8040‑XDM offers up to five times the chemical resistance and 10% higher divalent‑ion separation performance versus baseline offerings, targeting industrial wastewater, MLD and ZLD, and resource recovery.
  • The NE8040‑90F is a low‑pressure model that combines high permeate flow with high removal efficiency for PFAS and other trace hazardous substances for advanced water purification, softening, TOC/THM removal, and water reuse.

Product launch

Toray introduced two new nanofiltration membrane element models, NE8040‑XDM and NE8040‑90F, worldwide in July 2026. Both models were developed and are manufactured by Toray Advanced Materials Korea Inc.

Technical highlights

The NE8040‑XDM uses a proprietary, highly durable structure that delivers up to five times the chemical resistance and about 10% higher divalent‑ion separation performance versus baseline offerings, enabling stable long‑term operation under harsh conditions requiring frequent chemical cleaning. The NE8040‑90F is a low‑pressure element that pairs high permeate flow with high removal efficiency for PFAS and other trace hazardous substances.

Target applications

The NE8040‑XDM is positioned for industrial wastewater treatment, minimal liquid discharge (MLD) and zero liquid discharge (ZLD) systems, and valuable resource recovery. The NE8040‑90F targets advanced water purification tasks such as softening, total organic carbon and trihalomethane removal, PFAS and organic‑matter removal, and use in food & beverage, municipal drinking water, and water reuse applications.

Development note

Toray’s Global Environment Research Laboratories provided technical assistance in developing the NE8040‑XDM.
