Uniper appoints Tina Hinz General Counsel & Chief Compliance Officer
- Assumes role as General Counsel & Chief Compliance Officer at Uniper on June 1, 2026.
- Led establishment of Uniper’s first €3 billion corporate financing framework.
- Served as legal lead for Nord Stream 2 project financing and the LNG terminal Wilhelmshaven.
- Central to 2022 stabilization—handled KfW financings and negotiations with Fortum and the German government—and since 2023 has led Group-wide implementation of EU regulatory requirements.
Appointment
Tina Hinz will become General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer at Uniper effective June 1, 2026, reporting to CEO Michael Lewis and succeeding Marc Merrill.
Education and early career
Hinz studied law at the Universities of Bayreuth and Göttingen and worked at Linklaters from 2007 to 2016 in Frankfurt, London and Düsseldorf with a focus on Banking & Capital Markets and Corporate & M&A transactions.
Uniper experience and transactions
She joined Uniper’s Legal and Compliance department in 2016, has held senior roles, and led major matters including the establishment of Uniper’s €3 billion corporate financing framework; she served as legal lead for the Nord Stream 2 project financing and the LNG terminal Wilhelmshaven, and headed the legal gas, power and coal trading team as well as trading compliance.
Crisis management and regulatory work
Hinz played a central role in Uniper’s 2022 stabilization efforts, handling KfW financings and negotiations with Fortum and the German government, and since 2023 has led the Group-wide implementation of EU regulatory requirements.
Mandate ahead
In her new role she will be responsible for shaping the Legal and Compliance function to support Uniper’s strategy and the planned reprivatization, combining legal expertise with business-focused delivery.
