  • Cooperation will evaluate infrastructure options, stakeholder engagement and a potential AIFC-based investment framework.
  • Nextchem will identify technology pathways and assess technical, commercial and financial feasibility.
  • The initiative aims to support Kazakhstan’s ambition to become a regional SAF hub and deepen Italy–Europe–Kazakhstan industrial ties.

Deal scope

MAIRE, the Sovereign Wealth Fund of Kazakhstan Samruk‑Kazyna and the Italo‑Kazakh Trade Association (ACIK) signed a Memorandum of Understanding to explore development of a Sustainable Aviation Fuel production platform in the Republic of Kazakhstan based on HEFA (Hydroprocessed Esters and Fatty Acids) feedstocks.

Planned workstreams

The parties will collaborate on assessing infrastructure options, stakeholder engagement and defining a suitable investment framework, potentially within the Astana International Financial Centre (AIFC).

Technology and feasibility

Nextchem will leverage its technology portfolio and expertise to identify and advance key technology pathways and to assess technical, commercial and financial feasibility for HEFA‑based SAF production using feedstocks available in Kazakhstan.

Strategic rationale

The initiative is intended to support Kazakhstan’s ambition to strengthen its role as a regional SAF hub and to combine industrial development with longer‑term market potential across Europe–Asia routes, while reinforcing industrial and technological partnership links between Italy, Europe and Kazakhstan.
