Project completion and next steps

Mechanical completion of the back‑pressure steam turbine installation at the Rijeka Refinery was achieved on 25 August. Trial operation and commissioning of the equipment with the process medium will begin this week.

Scope and expected benefits

The installation includes back‑pressure steam turbines coupled to electric generators and represents a new investment of more than EUR 15 million in the refinery. The project is intended to enable more efficient use of steam, reduce steam consumption, generate energy savings and reduce CO₂ emissions.

Compliance and execution

The upgrade contributes to fulfilling obligations under the Energy Efficiency Act and to the refinery’s ongoing energy‑efficiency efforts. INA reported the schedule is five weeks ahead of the contractual deadline and cited coordination among internal teams and partners, including Siemens Energy, as critical to reaching this milestone.
