Project and partners

SPIE will deliver the HVAC, mechanical and electrical & instrumentation (E&I) scope for a new compression module on the N05‑A offshore gas platform, acting as multi‑technical partner to Smulders HSM. ONE‑Dyas operates N05‑A and the offshore installation partner is Scaldis. The execution is handled by an integrated project team combining Smulders HSM, SPIE and Scaldis to reduce interfaces and streamline decision‑making across engineering, procurement, construction and installation.

Module design and function

The compression module features two independent compression trains designed to accommodate changing reservoir pressure levels and to maintain efficient gas production over an extended period. It will be integrated onto the existing N05‑A platform, which has been operational since March 2025.

Scope of SPIE’s work

SPIE’s scope includes HVAC systems (air conditioning, ventilation and pressure management), mechanical works (piping, supports, installation, preservation and testing) and E&I (power supply systems, cable infrastructure, safety systems, instrumentation and platform integration). Bundling these disciplines under one contractor is intended to reduce coordination needs and improve execution efficiency during installation.

Energy context and timeline

N05‑A is the first North Sea gas production infrastructure to operate entirely on electricity from the nearby Riffgat offshore wind farm, reducing direct operational emissions. Integration of the new compression module is set to begin in June 2027, extending the platform’s productive life and maximising use of existing electrified infrastructure.
