Sinopec wins three 2025 national science and technology awards
- Three Sinopec projects won 2025 National Science and Technology Awards.
- The lead project, "New Technology of Liquid-holding Particle Fluidized Bed Ethylene Polymerization Reaction," won the second prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award.
- Two participating projects won the second prize of the National Technology Invention Award: "In-situ Observation Technology and Equipment for Deep-sea Mineral Development Engineering Geological Environment" and "Key Technology and Application of Temperature-resistant and Salt-resistant Freeze Gel Dispersion System for Water Control and Oil Increase."
- The lead polyethylene technology was applied in construction and renovation of 11 large polyethylene units and is described as making China the first to have original high-performance polyethylene process complete technology, with core technical indicators leading internationally.
Awards announced
On July 8, at the National Science and Technology Awards Conference and related meetings in Beijing, Sinopec had three projects win 2025 National Science and Technology Awards. The leading project won a second prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award, and two participating projects each won the second prize of the National Technology Invention Award.
Lead project details
The project "New Technology of Liquid-holding Particle Fluidized Bed Ethylene Polymerization Reaction" targeted the mismatch between general polyethylene overcapacity and shortage of high-end special materials. After years of research, development and engineering verification, the team invented the liquid-holding particle fluidized bed ethylene polymerization reaction, produced low, ultra-low and extremely low density high-end products, and applied the technology in construction and renovation of 11 large polyethylene units.
Wider award context
The announcement was part of the 2025 National Science and Technology Awards, which selected 258 projects and 11 science and technology experts in total. The awards included 2 National Highest Science and Technology Awards, 51 National Natural Science Awards, 58 National Technology Invention Awards, 149 National Science and Technology Progress Awards, and 9 recipients of the International Science and Technology Cooperation Award.
