Siemens expands data center portfolio with Skeleton Technologies supercapacitors
- Siemens made a strategic investment and signed an exclusive global partnership to integrate Skeleton’s supercapacitor systems into its data center electrical portfolio.
- The agreement gives Siemens exclusivity to sell and scale Skeleton’s products in the data center market and extends Siemens’ offering from grid connection to the AI rack.
- Skeleton’s high-power supercapacitors absorb rapid, recurring power swings—which can reach megawatt scale in seconds—protecting equipment and the grid while enabling higher compute density.
- Siemens has been a technology partner to Skeleton since 2022 and an investor since 2023; the transactions will complete after customary formalities.
Deal and scope
Siemens has made a strategic investment and agreed an exclusive global partnership with Skeleton Technologies to integrate Skeleton’s supercapacitor systems into Siemens’ end-to-end electrical infrastructure for data centers. The global partnership gives Siemens exclusivity to sell and scale Skeleton’s products in the data center market and expands its offering from the grid connection to the AI rack.
Technical value
Skeleton’s high-power supercapacitors act as an electrical shock absorber for rapid, recurring power swings caused by synchronized AI workloads. The technology addresses demand changes that can rise or fall within milliseconds and aggregate into megawatt-scale swings in seconds, protecting equipment and the grid, supporting peak shaving and enabling higher compute density without extensive facility upgrades.
Deployment and market
The solution targets hyperscale data centers and AI factories and can be deployed in existing AC architectures and retrofit projects while providing a pathway toward future 800V DC standards. Siemens intends to offer the technology across the full data center ecosystem, from utility connection to white space, leveraging its relationships with leading providers.
Background and next steps
Siemens has supported Skeleton as a technology partner since 2022 and as an investor since 2023; the transactions will be completed following fulfilment of customary completion formalities.
