Siemens and Infineon partner to add CoolSiC SiC modules to SENTRON 3QD2 breakers

Key highlights
  • Infineon will supply its 62 mm CoolSiC™ MOSFET module 1200 V for Siemens' SENTRON 3QD2 semiconductor circuit breakers.
  • The semiconductor breakers enable ultra-fast interruption in the microsecond range—up to 1,000× faster than conventional electromechanical breakers.
  • Targeted applications include AI data centers, production facilities and battery storage systems and support growing DC grid adoption.
  • A demo of the SENTRON 3QD2 will be shown at PCIM Europe 2026 in Nuremberg, 9–11 June (Infineon booth, hall 7, booth 470).

Partnership

Infineon will supply its 62 mm CoolSiC™ MOSFET module 1200 V to Siemens for integration into the SENTRON 3QD2 semiconductor circuit breaker to improve efficiency, power density and reliability of electrical protection.

Technology and performance

The SENTRON 3QD2 uses semiconductor components and smart protection algorithms to perform ultra-fast fault interruption in the microsecond range—up to 1,000 times faster than conventional electromechanical breakers—making it suitable for DC grids and power-critical environments.

Applications and impact

The collaboration targets AI data centers, industrial production facilities and battery storage systems where even short delays can cause downtime, data loss or hardware damage. Siemens says its DC portfolio can reduce energy consumption and material usage, and integrating batteries can cut peak power, supporting decarbonization and resilient infrastructure.

Demonstration

A demonstration of the Siemens SENTRON 3QD2 semiconductor circuit breaker will be exhibited at PCIM Europe 2026 in Nuremberg from 9 to 11 June at Infineon's booth (hall 7, booth 470).
