Introduction
SABIC is set to introduce three new families of non-fluorinated SILTEM™ resin blends at the 2025 IWCS Cable & Connectivity Industry Forum. These materials aim to replace traditional fluoropolymers like ETFE, FEP, and PVDF in wire and cable applications across automotive, industrial, and oil & gas sectors.
Material Benefits
The new SILTEM™ resin blends are formulated without fluorine, addressing regulatory restrictions on PFAS. They enhance the properties of SILTEM™ polyetherimide/siloxane copolymer resin, offering improved thermal and chemical resistance and easier processing. Potential applications include strain reliefs, data cables, heat tracing cables, and automotive under-hood wiring.
Additional Applications
Beyond wire and cable, these resin blends may be used in seals, gaskets, and heat-shrink tubes, where they can be crosslinked to meet shape memory requirements. The materials are available for sampling, providing opportunities for testing and evaluation in various applications.
Event Details
The IWCS 2025 event will take place in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, from October 27-30. Sean Culligan, a senior manager at SABIC, will present on the topic of Polyetherimide-Siloxane Copolymers as an alternative to fluoropolymers during the Technical Symposium on October 30.
