SABIC Boosts PPE Oligomers Capacity for AI and 5G PCBs

Key highlights
  • SABIC plans to complete PPE oligomers expansion by the second half of 2026.
  • NORYL SA9000 is a key PPE oligomer for high-performance multilayer CCLs.
  • SABIC's materials support AI and 5G data centers with advanced properties.

Expansion of PPE Oligomers

SABIC is expanding its production of specialty oligomers based on polyphenylene ether (PPE) technology. This expansion aims to meet the increasing demand for high-performance printed circuit boards (PCBs) in data centers, particularly those serving artificial intelligence (AI) and 5G applications. The expansion is scheduled for completion in the second half of 2026.

NORYL™ PPE Oligomers

The company's flagship product in this segment is NORYL SA9000, a modified low-molecular-weight, bi-functional PPE oligomer grade. It is used for high-performance multilayer copper-clad laminates (CCLs) in 5G base stations and high-speed AI server PCBs. The material offers high heat resistance, dimensional stability, and flame retardancy, along with increased layer-count capability for low-loss CCL products.

Advanced Materials for Data Centers

Data centers for AI and 5G require advanced materials due to their powerful electronics in confined spaces. SABIC provides a range of specialty resins and compounds with benefits such as lightweight strength, thermal and electrical conductivity, optical clarity, chemical resistance, and cooling capabilities. These materials support next-gen design and engineering in data centers.
