- Investment of over €35M to build a new XLPE plant in Tarragona
- Plant will have an annual capacity of 27 kt and start in mid-2024
- LSHC™ technology from Buss AG will be used
- Seven grades will target HV, EHV, WTR, and DC segments
Investment and Location
Repsol is investing over €35 million to build a new plant in Tarragona, Spain. The facility will manufacture Cross-linkable Polyethylene (XLPE), a polymer used in cable insulation.
Production Capacity and Timeline
The plant will have an annual production capacity of 27 kilotons and is scheduled to start operations in mid-2024. The new technology selected for the plant is LSHC™ (Linear Short Hyperclean) from Buss AG.
Product Range and Segments
The new range will consist of seven grades based on low-density polyethylene (LDPE) or EBA copolymers. These grades will target the Water-Tree-Retardant (WTR), high voltage (HV), extra-high voltage (EHV), and direct current (DC) cable segments.
Global Distribution
After the startup in June 2024, the XLPE produced will be shipped to advanced cable manufacturing facilities worldwide to meet the highest international standards in HV and EHV cables.
