Key highlights
  • QatarEnergy signed two long-term SPAs with Cheniere for up to 4 MTPA of LNG.
  • Volumes will be sourced from Cheniere’s Sabine Pass (Louisiana) and Corpus Christi (Texas) facilities.
  • Deliveries are FOB and are expected to commence in 2031 and continue through 2054.
  • QatarEnergy says the purchase will expand and diversify its global LNG supply and trading portfolio.

Transaction

QatarEnergy signed two long-term Sale and Purchase Agreements (SPAs) with Cheniere to purchase up to 4 million tons per annum (MTPA) of LNG.

Supply sources

The volumes will be supplied from Cheniere’s Sabine Pass and Corpus Christi facilities located on the U.S. Gulf Coast in Louisiana and Texas.

Commercial terms and timing

Deliveries under the SPAs will be on a free-on-board (FOB) basis and are anticipated to commence in 2031, continuing through 2054.

Strategic rationale

QatarEnergy described the purchase as a move to expand and diversify its global LNG portfolio, complement existing supplies, enhance its supply and trading portfolio, and strengthen its ability to serve customers worldwide; the company said the SPAs reflect its continued confidence in the long-term role of LNG.
