OXEA FID for Bay City capacity expansion with Air Liquide syngas unit

Key highlights
  • OXEA has confirmed Final Investment Decision, fully funded the Bay City expansion and moved into execution (engineering, procurement and construction).
  • The project increases Propionaldehyde capacity and fully enables Propanol and Butanol capacities, while unlocking feedstock for the Carboxylic Acids portfolio.
  • OXEA signed a long‑term syngas supply agreement with Air Liquide; Air Liquide will design, build and operate an on‑site syngas unit.
  • Site preparation for the syngas unit begins Q3 2026 with full project completion expected by end of 2028; the syngas design enables CO₂ recirculation to reduce overall carbon emissions.

Decision and scope

OXEA has taken Final Investment Decision and fully funded a major capacity expansion at its Bay City, Texas production site. The project expands OXEA’s core OXO technologies to increase Propionaldehyde capacity, fully enable Propanol and Butanol capacities, and unlock feedstock availability for its Carboxylic Acids portfolio.

Syngas partnership and technology

OXEA signed a long‑term synthesis gas supply agreement with Air Liquide, under which Air Liquide will design, build and operate a purpose‑built on‑site syngas unit. The syngas unit design will enable recirculation of CO₂ back into the reactor to optimise syngas composition and production flexibility and to reduce overall carbon emissions.

Execution and schedule

With FID confirmed and funding in place, OXEA has entered the execution phase covering detailed engineering, procurement and construction. Site preparation for the Air Liquide syngas unit is planned to begin in Q3 2026, with full project completion expected by the end of 2028.

Strategic positioning

The expansion leverages Bay City’s feedstock advantages on the U.S. Gulf Coast and aims to strengthen supply security for global customers, position the site for further growth, and support broader industrial development and partnerships at the Bay City industrial park.
