Nyrstar achieves The Zinc Mark at four zinc smelters

Nyrstar announced its Balen, Budel, Clarksville and Hobart zinc smelting operations have achieved The Zinc Mark, meeting best‑in‑class requirements for responsible production practices.

Balen (Belgium), Budel (The Netherlands), Clarksville (USA) and Hobart (Australia) are the certified sites; Balen, Budel and Hobart are the first operations to receive The Zinc Mark in their respective countries. Including these four, there are now 12 sites worldwide with The Zinc Mark.
Scope and verification
The Zinc Mark is delivered through The Copper Mark assurance framework. To receive the mark, operations are assessed and independently verified against 32 responsible production criteria covering greenhouse gas emissions, community health and safety, respect for Indigenous rights and business integrity.
Industry responses
Nyrstar’s CEO said the award reflects the local teams’ care for environment, health, safety and community well‑being and underlines the role of zinc and its byproducts for the green transition and regional security. Executives from The Copper Mark and the International Zinc Association welcomed the new certifications and noted the value of an independently verified assurance framework for responsible sourcing in the zinc industry.
