Nouryon commissions first U.S. solar project at Morris, Illinois plant
- First U.S. on-site solar project at Morris, Ill., developed with Convergent Energy and Power.
- System expected to generate about 3,400 MWh per year, covering roughly 10% of the site's electricity needs.
- Estimated annual greenhouse gas avoidance of 1,152 metric tons CO2e.
- Nouryon reported 54% of its electricity from renewables in 2025 and targets a 40% cut in absolute Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2030 vs 2019.
Project
Nouryon has started generating solar power at its Morris, Illinois manufacturing plant, its first U.S. on-site solar installation. The system was developed in partnership with Convergent Energy and Power and supplies electricity directly to the site.
Output and emissions
The installation is expected to produce about 3,400 megawatt-hours per year, covering approximately 10% of the Morris site's electricity demand, and to avoid an estimated 1,152 metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions annually.
Context within operations
The Morris facility manufactures ingredients used in cleaning, personal care and crop protection products. The project follows recent on-site renewable installations in Mons (Belgium), Singapore and Guangzhou (China), and precedes planned projects in Fort Worth and Houston, Texas, and Asa, Japan.
Sustainability targets
In 2025, renewable sources supplied 54% of Nouryon's total electricity worldwide. The company has set a target to reduce absolute Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 40% by 2030 from a 2019 baseline.
