MOL completes reconstruction of AV3 unit at Danube Refinery
- Repair budget for the AV3 rebuild was 18 billion forints.
- The AV3 crude oil distillation unit was damaged in a fire in October 2025 and has now been reconstructed.
- Works installed 27 new pumps, replaced 8 km of piping and laid 100 km of electrical cables; construction finished on schedule.

Reconstruction completed
The AV3 crude oil distillation unit at the Danube (Százhalombatta) Refinery, damaged by a fire in October 2025, has completed reconstruction work. The damaged reinforced concrete structure was demolished and rebuilt; affected equipment and the control and electrical systems were restored. The repair budget totalled 18 billion forints. Twenty-seven new high‑capacity pumps were installed, eight kilometres of piping were replaced and 100 kilometres of electrical cables were laid. Construction finished according to the preliminary schedule.
Restart and testing
With construction complete, removal of construction equipment will be followed by a staged restart. Teams will flush systems, perform pressure tests, run functional tests of process control and safety equipment, connect required auxiliary power supplies and coordinate AV3 operation with associated refinery facilities. Every step will be accompanied by operational safety inspections and tests before crude oil is introduced.
Capacity and regional impact
After commissioning and testing, the Százhalombatta refinery will be able to operate at full capacity. Restoring AV3 is expected to strengthen the security of fuel supply for Hungary and the wider region and to give the refinery greater flexibility in meeting domestic and regional demand. Production is slated to resume gradually in October.
