Mitsui Chemicals invests in iOrganBio to advance human cell and organoid manufacturing
- Mitsui Chemicals invested in iOrganBio through its 321Catalyst corporate venture capital fund.
- The collaboration pairs Mitsui's materials design and InnoCell cell culture plates with iOrganBio's AI, single-cell analysis and robotics-enabled closed-loop platform.
- Partners aim to improve uniformity and reproducibility of target human cells and organoids and to enable production of cell types previously difficult to manufacture.
- They will explore joint development of drug discovery technologies for efficacy and safety testing that could complement or serve as alternatives to animal testing, and develop related cell-culture materials.
Deal overview
Mitsui Chemicals invested in iOrganBio via its 321Catalyst corporate venture fund to collaborate on the design and manufacture of human cells and organoids for drug discovery and regenerative medicine applications.
Technical collaboration
Mitsui will contribute materials design capabilities, including its InnoCell cell culture plates, while iOrganBio brings a platform that integrates AI, single-cell analysis and robotics in a closed-loop autonomous laboratory to produce target human cells and organoids with high uniformity and reproducibility.
Planned workstreams and goals
The partners will optimize culture conditions to improve cell and organoid quality and enable production of cell types that have been difficult to manufacture. They also plan to jointly develop drug discovery technologies for efficacy and safety assessments that could complement or serve as alternatives to animal testing, and to develop related cell-culture materials.
