Metso commissions 4-MW extra-large slurry pump test rig in Sala
- Metso commissioned a 4-MW extra-large slurry pump test rig at its Test and Training Center in Sala, Sweden; it is fully operational.

New 4-MW test rig in Sala
Metso has commissioned a 4-MW extra-large slurry pump test rig at its Test and Training Center in Sala, Sweden. The rig is among the largest of its kind globally, is fully operational, and initial tests have already been completed.
Performance and testing capabilities
The test rig can handle flows up to 25,000 m³/h, enabling full-scale performance verification under realistic operating conditions for all current slurry pump sizes up to MD900. It is designed to accommodate even larger pump sizes as Metso's product portfolio evolves, supporting pump selection optimisation, reliability improvements and reduced operational risk.
Sala site and network
For more than 100 years, Sala has been central to slurry pump innovation and manufacturing. The site combines pumps, hydrocyclones and valves with slurry testing and digital condition monitoring, supporting activities from laboratory analysis to full-scale validation. A new 5,400 m² warehouse expands the site's building area from approximately 21,000 m² to more than 26,000 m² to improve logistics efficiency, customer service and workplace safety.
The new extra-large rig complements Metso's existing pump testing, engineering and development facilities in Sweden, Peru, Australia and India and is backed by a global network of service and repair centres for lifecycle support.
