What Sampo Cell delivers
The Sampo Cell is a coarse particle flotation technology designed to expand flotation performance to significantly coarser and less liberated particle sizes, improving recovery of particles typically lost in conventional circuits while maintaining fine particle recovery.
Operating principle and flowsheet impact
Based on a froth-feeding principle, slurry is gently fed directly into the froth phase where separation occurs under low-turbulence conditions, minimising particle detachment. The design removes the need for feed classification, fluidization water and additional concentrate dewatering stages, simplifying coarse flotation flowsheets and easing integration into existing plants using familiar flotation controls and instrumentation.
Industrial validation
Since March 2026 the Sampo Cell has been in continuous 24/7 industrial-scale scavenger duty at a copper mine in Chile. Operated by the customer, it demonstrated a significant increase in total plant recovery by capturing particles normally lost in conventional flotation cells, validating performance and scalability under real operating conditions.
Commercial rollout
The Sampo Cell is offered as part of Metso Plus to support energy, water efficiency and higher resource recovery and will be commercially launched on September 10, 2026 at Metso Summit.
