- Messer completed acquisition of 100% of Wipco Industrial Sdn Bhd (Ipoh), which operates a cylinder filling station and a PLC-controlled dissolved acetylene plant; Wipco was established in 2000.
- Messer signed an agreement to acquire 100% of Kobewel Kogyo Gases Sdn Bhd (Sepang), established in 2007, enabling consolidation with Messer’s Kuala Lumpur operations.
- The deals add packaged gases, DA production, welding equipment distribution, cylinder depots and marine/offshore services, and provide immediate platforms in Penang’s semiconductor/manufacturing corridor.
Deal scope
Messer has completed the acquisition of 100% of WKS Group (Singapore and south Malaysia) and 100% of Wipco Industrial Sdn Bhd (Ipoh, northern Peninsular Malaysia), and has signed a definitive agreement to acquire 100% of Kobewel Kogyo Gases Sdn Bhd (Sepang, Selangor).
Assets and operations acquired
WKS Group comprises six companies with 195 employees and operates packaged gases filling stations, dissolved acetylene plants, a distribution network for welding equipment and consumables, cylinder gas depots and specialized services for the marine and offshore industry. Wipco runs a cylinder filling station and a modern PLC-controlled dissolved acetylene production plant and serves customers in manufacturing, semiconductor and electronics sectors. Kobewel operates a modern packaged gases facility in Sepang with a high proportion of direct end-user relationships.
Strategic rationale
The transactions expand Messer’s footprint in Singapore and Malaysia, provide an immediate operational platform in Penang’s semiconductor and advanced manufacturing corridor, and enable consolidation of central Malaysian operations by combining Messer’s Kuala Lumpur activities with Kobewel’s Sepang facility. The acquisitions broaden Messer’s product and service mix across electronics, medical and marine/offshore segments and are positioned to unlock regional synergies.
