Award
Toyota Motor Europe recognised LyondellBasell for advancing circular material solutions for automotive applications and presented the award at its Annual Business Meeting on May 7, 2026, in Belgium.
Collaboration and validation
Over the past two years LYB teams worked closely with Toyota to plan, evaluate and validate postconsumer recycled (PCR) polymer materials made from end-of-life fishing nets recovered from maritime environments. The teams conducted extensive testing and performance evaluations to ensure the materials meet automotive requirements. "This recognition is an honor for our teams," said Frank Noeltgen, vice president of Advanced Polymer Solutions Europe at LYB.
Materials and applications
LYB translates complex waste streams into high-value materials, developing polypropylene compounds for bumpers, instrument panels and interior trim that focus on lightweight, sustainable performance while meeting industry standards.
Next steps
Toyota intends to incorporate the PCR materials into future vehicles, and LYB will support Toyota's end-of-life vehicle development via its closed-loop preparation center to help return recovered materials to new applications.
